  • No splash or foam v-ray Edu Next, update 3

    Hey there,

I know there are variants of this topic around, but I am completely stuck and am pretty sure GPU is not factoring into my issue.

Per the attached image, I am NOT using the GPU engine for v-ray. For the Particle Shaders in Phoenix I have 'render as geometry' set as per some other articles I have seen. There are no errors in the vray render log and if GPU was selected there are normally errors highlighted in green about the shaders being disabled due to not being supported by GPU rendering.

I have an M5000 graphics card in my machine and the latest nvidia drivers - I am completely stumped as to why the particle shaders just do not seem to want to be recognised.

    Max file is attached also.

    Many thanks

    S.

    Hey,

If you create a waterfall preset from the toolbar, do ots particles render after you simulate it?

If they do, it's up to finding the differences between the working and non-working scene.

Note that particle rendering is handled by the particle shaders.

Also please note that parricle shaders are still not supported by V-Ray GPU - you can check the docs site for more info.

    Cheers!

Hey, nah this is not unique to this scene, anything I try and do with splash, foam etc doesn't render. I have seen the same file on another machine render fine. A simple out of the box sphere pouring into the grid with splash and mist on doesn't work either. It is definately something to do with v-ray and my machine as the particle shader show up in a really ugly form when I render with scanline default.. flip the v-ray and nothing. Baffling and frustrating to say the least.

Very interesting what is different between the two machines...

        1. Please check the exact full Phoenix versions on both machines in the About dialog of the Simulator and paste it here.

2.Also, is there any difference between the V-Ray versions on both machines? Also, are they both EDU?

        3. Right after you render, please copy here the latest Phoenix log file from c:\phoenixfd.

This will help shed some light on the issue.

        Cheers!

          Hey,

Yeh everything is the same on both, one is my workstation and the other is just a crappy laptop I am using because it works in some form in relation to rendering. Both use the same installers and both are EDU versions. I'll create a dummy scene tonight, and attach it and the log file as well.

          Cheers

B I N G O. I had a look at the log you mentioned. Sure enough a number of particle shader errors with the comments "maybe v-ray was installed after Phoenix" I uninstalled it all, installed v-ray first then Phoenix and now I am in particle shader heaven.

            Appreciate the help.

Sweet, this was what I was suspecting the log could reveal. Cheers!
