  • fatal errors related to active bodies.

i think I've had enough fatal errors now to think something is up with active bodies. I've been able to replicate this every other time, sometimes a few times in a row, but sometime the fatal error is a little bit more unexpected, sometimes not at all (but will happen eventually given enough prodding)

I've not managed to narrow it down entirely but i feel it's related to the centre of mass gizmo. there seems to be a point where if you move it too low it will fatal error, but like I say i've seen a lot of fatal errors this afternoon - maybe 8 or 9 so far which is why I've made this post. i't's happening in my more complicated working scenes so much that i started to troubleshoot in a blank scene with no referenced geo and it's just as crashy.

    -new scene
-make a cube, scale it up to be about the size of a bed but longer
-click the ocean quicksetup / preset button
    -create an active body solver
    -link solver to simulator
    -add geo to solver
-set density on Geo in extra attributes to 350
-set cell size to something bigger for speed (6)
-set 'override CoM in extra attributes of geo to on (ticked)
-move CoM locator down slightly below the geo

    * start simulation*

    sim completes 120 frames

    -move CoM down much further

    *start simulation*
    *fatal error*

I've also had fatal errors when grouping geo that's already in an active body state. this one is very repeatable for me. now i know that this isn't really proper workflow and what i'm doing here i probably shouldn't be doing - but it's something i've been able to do with regular non active body sims before time and time.I should be creating these groups before setting up the active body 0 but i also think there shouldn't be an issue doing it afterwards. Here's the steps:

    -new scene
-reference a proxy version of a model
-reference comes in a s a group, with an object inside of it that are hidden unless needed
    -select geo
    -use infinite ocean quick-setup button
-create active body solver and go through setup process like above.
    *simulate*
    *sims for 120 frames, great*

now i want to adjust the position of my proxy model to lower and tilt it a bit. I don't want to transform the geo or reference directly though so i group it.

-select the group at the top of the reference.
-ctrl+G to group it with the intention of then moving that group to reposition geo
    *fatal error*

I've been able to group references like this with regular liquid / fluid sims. I often do it to add layers of animation but if i do this with an active body setup i get a fatal error. I've only tested this with referenced geo so far. i haven't had time to do this with a new scene and primitive geo.

    Hey,

We fixed some problems causing random fatal errors in the scene - can you try and get a latest nightly build and check if this solves the problem?

You can check how to get a nightly build here - https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...nightly-builds

    Thanks!

Btw, if you get a crash once or twice, ping use right away, no need to suffer through it - we could know about it and direct you to a fixed build or we might not know about it and fix it for you and everyone else so it's a win-win to ping as as early as something is off
