  • Rendering sim with splashes and velocity as render element

    Hello,

so I'm having an issue on the Phoenix FD export. It's rather an issue on I don't understand it than on Phoenix is the issue.

I'm trying to render a simulation and splashes. I did already an alembic cache and used my own vray water shader, because the preview mesh one was way too dark for an aquarium water set up.

But of course the alembic cache does not include the Splashes and also I wanted to add motion blur after rendering in AE (because I felt like, I could better control on how much motion blur is needed since I'm recreating a real "a brick falls in the aquarium" water situation) and I didn't really get on how to do that.I rendered the velocity as an separate element, but did not work. Only showed the brick and not the movment of the water on that layer.

So I guess alembic cache does not really work for me to include the splashes and motion blur/velocity.
I read thru manuals on the rendering various time and the Volumetric Geometry sounds like that would be the right one. But whenever I select it, the liquid mesh disappears (preview and when rendering). Also how do I change the shader of the fluid, when I'm not exporting a alembic cache. Never understood that either from reading the manuel.

I hope it's all clear, what I described. And I would be super gratefull if anyone could help me.
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Hey,

When you render particles, there is the analogue of the Simulator's Volumetric Geometry option, but for the Particle Shaders - Render as Geometry.

Note that the particle shaders render the particles while the Simulator renders the mesh or fire/smoke, so by setting the Simulator's render mode to Volumetric Geometry, you basically tell it to render as smoke, which is actually possible and you just need to edit the surface channel and level settings (in case you need such an effect some time

      Hello,

If you're using 3ds Max you can find how to export the Alembic cache with velocity data here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cachetoAlembic
      If you're using Maya - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...gtheLiquidMesh

As for changing the material of the fluid - if you're rendering a liquid, just assign a new material to the simulator and it should work.
