  • Gradient Ramp as Alpha for Volume Brush has no effect...

I found out, that a Gradient Ramp seems to have no effect, if I use it as Alpha for Volume Brush.

I wanted to animate a stripe. When I disconnect the map again everything emits....
(I double checked with a checker board, which is working as alpha)

If there is another node to create a thin alpha stripe, let me know. thanks...

    2.)
I tried to achieve the same with a Discharge Modifier
    - on the one hand I would need an orientation diagonally in space.
I used "Object Z" as Position and rotated the Objects gizmo.
Unfortunately the Object space is the same like world space, the rotation had no effect.
    - and it seemed impossible to animate the curve of the Discharge modifier (I tried Auto-key)

As always happy for any suggestion

Are you sure you want to use it with Explicit Map Channel mapping? Maybe you need Object XYZ or World XYZ instead?

thanks, I used now a simple Photoshop picture of that stripe and animated V offset and V tiling.
It worked also with map channel 10.
the additional map channel (10) is the chance to orient the UV plane freely in space.

Ah, I just checked the animated discharge modifier curves - they are animated and if you run a simulation, they will work, but when you scroll the timeline, the curve does not update in the user interface. If you deselect the node and select it again, you will see it update. Gonna fix this right now, thanks for the report!

... and the curves update will be in tomorrow's Phoenix nightlies for 3ds Max - now changing the positions of markers and even changing the colors of color gradients will show up in the user interface of the Volumetric Options, Discharge Modifiers and the Particle Texture.

          Thanks again!
