  • How to make a sprinkle and MUD in the same scene

I have an issue; How to make a sprinkle and MUD in the same scene. So when the sprinkler starts and the water hits some mud, the mud will flush out slowly.
How to do this in Phoenix FD for 3ds Max?

I can not find any example on how to do this and also how to make a sprinkle? Should I use Super Spray?

Please help me out, thank you

    Best regards,
    Kim

    Hey,

I am attaching two scenes that should help you get going:

    Hope this helps

Hi Svetlin - Thank you for the samples I will take a review for the scenes and let you know it is working for me.
P.S. Will FD4 with max 2021 be faster? Right now, I use FD3 with max 2020.

Ah yes, we are constantly finding stuff we don't like the performance of, and take time to speed it up - in the simulation, the rendering or the previews.

You can look up "sped up" or "optimized" in the version changelogs here:
        https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX4MAX/4.00.00
        https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX4MAX/4.10.00
        https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX4MAX/4.20.00
... and there are also speed improvements in the nightly builds since 4.20 for both fire/smoke and FLIP liquid simulations and for V-Ray rendering - check out the nghtly_changelog zips with every day's changes:
        https://nightlies.chaosgroup.com/main#/phoenix4max/nightly/20200907

Max 2020 vs 2021 alone will not make much of a difference performance wise with Phoenix - it's more about the Phoenix version.

        Cheers!

Hi Svetlin - Thank you for your info! I have download FD3 for MAX 2021 and works fine and has also got 30 days to try the version for FD4.

Hey, sorry but I don't understand the issue. This seems to be a modified scene. In the original one the Cylinder is already Solid. Which exact Phoenix 3 version do you use so I can check if the scene has any issues with Phoenix 3?

Sorry, Svetlin - It was not the right post! All is good so far and in-progress to make some tests.

                  Hi Svetlin

Now I have a check on how to make many mud spots

I have an issue with finding the right setup for making the mist (inside a machine - you can see the picture showing some mist (or spray - what you will call it?) - How to do this on FD3 or FD4?
The idea is; when the mist starts and hits some mud inside the machine, the mud will flush out slowly. Furthermore, I will use Vrayclipper (to cut the machine) and hope this is not a problem with FD3 or FD4?

P.S. I have done this animation (see attachment picture) with RealFlow 10 in the year 2018, but like to try using FD3 so it will be more Pixar quality this time.

                  Best regards,
                  Kim

Ah yes, so the V-Ray Clipper will clip Phoenix liquids renderer in Mesh mode (from the Rendering rollout). It will not clip particles rendered via the Phoenix Particle Shader, so you can use the Cutter Geometry option on the Particle Shader for this: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...HXFoam-General

Thank you for the hint Svetlin - Do you not have any sample on how to make a mist (or spray) in PD3 like the one you see in the picture above? (or you maybe can make a demo scene for me) PLEASE!
I have read on the internet many people ask about this solution!

Appreciate your help so we will only work with PD3 in the future and our dream is to phases out RealFlow

Hey, are the attached scenes not working for you?

If so, then we are back a few posts back to my original question - which exact Phoenix 3 version do you use?

I need to know this, so I can open the scenes and make any changes if they are needed.

                        Thank you!

                          Yes the scene for MUD works fine! but again; how to make a mist (or spray) in PD3 like the one you see in the picture here;
                          I running PD 3.14 with 3ds max 2021.

The scene for Sprinkler on the earlier post, don't are the right idea!

The pictures below with the spray (blue water) you see are done in RealFlow and wish to do the same thing in PD3!

I hope you understand my question!

For the sprinkler you could use a particle source for the liquid emission. Just use Particle Flow or tyFlow in your source.
This should give you the dispersed look you're after.

Can I not ask you to make a sample scene? I use PD 3.14 with 3DS max - PLEASE, it will help me a lot to continue the task.
