  • Foam not visible from underwater camera

    Hello,

I have a problem when rendering my scene.

I have a simulation box witch is render as an aquarium where the liquid is filling from the bottom and the water level is lifting.
The problem is that the foam above the water is not see trough the refraction of the water when rendering (See render region preview 1 and 2).
When i hide the Liquid, i can see all the foam on the water surface. In theory, I should have a similar render with a little deformation due to the refraction.
My liquid shader is a basic refraction water with ior to 1.33.

Is it a normal behaviour ? because i lost all the details of the water surface.

    Thank you

I think this problem come from de Refraction IOR. If i put something between 1.01 et 1.33, i don't see the foam. If i put 1.00 (Which it's an uncorrect value) i can see the foam but everything refract inside the water.

Hey, everything looks correct. Would it be possible to send the scene over so we can check it?

            Hey,

Thanks a lot for the scene. Looks like everything is good with it though

It's just how the refraction works. I have recorded a short video with a simplified version of your scene.
I have put a box where the Phoenix simulator is and placed a simple plane over the top of the box to act as the foam. Then I have added a hdr map in the environment so it is a bit easier to see what is going on.

It works when you set the IOR to 1, because then the light does not change direction. You can find more about the refraction here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...Mtl-Refraction

In your case if you wish to see more of the foam, you can use the Vertical Offset option in the Particle Shader. Try with something like -5 or -10 and it should work.

            Cheers!

              Hello,

yeah, i was suspecting that case. Thank again for testing the scene. I will tweak a little bit more the scene.

Quick questions. It's normal that VRaySphereFade does not work with the foam ?

When i active the VRaySphereFade, the foam do not render anymore

You will need to turn on "Render as Geometry" mode in the Particle Shader options.
You can find more about the geometry mode here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...HXFoam-General
