  • cigarette smoke simulation - texture not shown

    Good morning,
I just started studying the smoke simultions and I was following the tutorial at this page
Using TexUVW for Creating Thin Smoke - Phoenix FD 4 for 3ds Max - Chaos Group Help

when I reach the point I have to put the noise in the texture slot into the volumetric option settings, in the smoke opacity tab.
I put based on "texture", I drag in the noise.
If I leave the default settin gin the noise panel, on regular, this is what I see

If I change to turbolance, nothing is shown, I can see only the source geometry.
Is there any known reason for this?

I'm on vray 5 gpu, I tried also cpu version but is the same.
even if I download the final scene attached at the page is not working

    Hey,

Are you using the Noise texture - Noise_test, that is added in the start and final download scenes? If not, could you try with it.

If you are creating your own Noise texture make sure to change the texture coordinates from ObjectXYZ to Explicit Map Channel, otherwise, the Noise texture does not flow with the fluid using TexUVW, but instead is statically fixed in space. Another important thing is the Noise texture's Size value, you could use the provided texture as a reference.

For now the TexUVW is not rendering with GPU, but it's in our To Do List.

    Hope this helps!

      Hi Slavina,
I tried directly the file "PjoenixFD_Thin_Smoke_max2016_END".
CPU version, nothing is shown though

        Hey,

Can you tell us which Phoenix FD build are you using? The information could be found in the Simulation rollout → About.
Also, can you tell us which V-Ray version you have installed? You can find the V-Ray version in the Render settings window → Settings tab → About V-Ray rollout.

        Thank you!

          Sure thing:

          PhFD 4.30.00, Build ID: 20200912
          Vray 5, hotfix 2, 5.00.05 build 00001

            Hey,

I just saw from your screenshot that you are using CPU IPR, which is currently not supported for Volumetrics. If you use the Production Render, the smoke should appear.

Here you could find a list with the supported V-Ray features: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...atures+Support.

            Cheers!

              my apologies

But for gpu. final render won't work anyway, correct?

It won't work, because TexUVW is not implemented yet for V-Ray GPU.

                Cheers!
