  • Serious Issue - Just a Sphere in Water, immediatly starts to explode

    Hi Guys,

i'm encountering some really odd behavior.
Guess you should even be able recreate it easily or something is broken my setup.

    Fresh empty Max Scene,
    Create LiquidSim Container,
put a Sphere in the middle of it, not moving,
Hit sim, setup starts to turn crazy ....hhhm why? do i miss something obviously right now

Would be great if you can have a look at that as this situation puts me to a grinding halt!
Btw, i'm having this issue since the latest two nightlies, at least that was when i became aware of.

    Have to add:
It doesn't make a difference if the sphere is set to "clear inside" or not.
Pretty much everything in the liquid sim is on default as i made a new scene for it.
As scale also seems fine, I don't even have a clou right now what is causing this odd behavior

      Hey,

Thanks for the scene! I've ran it on my machine and it seems to be working correctly here. I'm using 3ds Max 2021 and today's Phoenix Nightly - https://nightlies.chaosgroup.com/mai...est/2021-02-24.

Could you explain me what's the exact problem in more details?

Also, could you tell me which Max version are you using and which is the exact Phoenix version you have installed?

      Thanks!

        Hi Slavina,

        thanks fpr your fast reply.
Yeay that was kind of the answer i was afraid of hehe

I'm using the latest nightly too but using Max 2020, you think that could make a difference?

The Max version shouldn't matter... How many CPU cores do you have? What if you reduce them to 12 or 8 in the Simulation rollout? Does it make a difference?

Will do a screengrab so you can see better.
But already looks like reducing the threads don't make it better

Also when i turn on splashes and foam they spill with crazy speed, do i remember right that there should be no splashes under water? Remember the floating boat issue i had?

Nah, don't worry, I'm running it on my machine and there is something fishy happening. Will ping you when I know more.

Yeah, I'm suspecting the low scale (just 70 cm tall) in combination with the ocean fillup.

Will play with increasing the steps per frame, the scene scale, or turning off the ocean and using jammed walls. Will also test an older build.

Okay, so Fillup for Ocean On vs Fillup for Ocean Off and all walls = jammed is still the same.

10 times higher Scene Scale or 10 times more Steps per Frame and it looks okay on my end.

Can you try if it still blows up for you?

I do suspect there might be something wrong with the pressures on the surface of the sphere though...

Ah yes, this is not something new, I rolled back as well.

What settings you used for the animation in your previous post tho? I see the result, but can't say anything because I don't know what the settings are..

Settings are complete Default as i created a new scene

It's so odd, it's happening with the sphere and teapot also but not with the box??

Oooookay, but did you try my suggestion to raise the steps per frame or the scene scale?

If it doesn't happen with the box, then this confirms my guess that it might be related to the pressure in voxels which are partially occupied by obstacles. If you rotate the box at an angle, maybe the air pockets will start showing up?
