  • Smoke seems to get no light in mixed water/fire-scene

    Hello there,

a have a simple water-scene with a motor-boat crashing into a wall. The water-part looks ok but the smoke doesn't seem to get any illumination from the vray dome-light (with hdri) and renders completely black. I used the "https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX4MAX/Explosion+Plume+with+tyFlow" tutorial for the explosion, which has worked before in a scene without a water sim in the same scene. But that cannot be the problem, I guess. I post a picture of my setting and the (cancelled) rendering.

    I am in 3ds max2021, rendering in vray-5 hotfix-2, using Phoenix FD (v4.20.00) btw.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey,

Your smoke color is set to RGB, do you have the RGB channel enabled in the Output rollout for the Fire/Smoke sim? If it is not enabled you will have to enable it and run the sim again.
If you set the Smoke color to Constant color does it get illuminated in the render?

Thank you for your swift answer, Georgi. Of course you are 100% correct and cing the RGB output and re-simulating did the trick. Have a nice day!
