  • Beach waves swashing on cage border

is it a common issue? for me the simulated beach waves seem to be colliding with the cage border.
so the waves roll faster in the center than in the rest of the cage which causes unwanted turbulence in the behavior of the ocean surface.
in the beach waves tutorial and in the massive wave force tutorial the ocean waves are moving much more regularily.
so i followed the desrcibed steps but the result is still turbulent presumably because of the "friction" on the cage border.

does it have to be with the used build (44100_max2021) or what am i missing?

    Hey,

Yes, this is expected I'm afraid.

When you use forces together with ocean sims, currently the simulator can't tell what they are supposed to do outside the grid, so the fluid changes behavior at the borders.

As a possible workaround you can try to make the simulator wider so that the waves from the border don't affect the middle part that much.

      Thankyou. I will try that.
Still I wonder how it used to be so much more regular before.

It was so much worse before, but I did a number of fixes to the ocean borders over the last few years. Still, the ocean does know about the forces so it acts like the forces work only inside the border and then suddenly cut out at the borders, which causes this to look like drag on the sides. If you did not see this before, it's been because if luck. Btw, if you jam the grid walls to the side, it will not create this dragging effect. But this might not blend well with the infinite ocean when rendering.

Thankyou, this one was helpful. I found a way to do without the infinite ocean in favor of a drag-less wave sim!
