after working on a sim for quite a while it seems to be randomly getting a bug where the preview is reading the wrong frame no matter where I scrub to on the timeline (it always displays the same frame). Occasionally if I click around on various other phoenix nodes it will sometimes update to display the correct preview mesh for the current frame but as soon as a scrub on the timeline it goes back to displaying the same incorrect frame. Reverting to an older version of the project fixes this but at some point it will eventually bug out and start doing this again. The data is there I can see it being saved ( and if I render it renders correctly ) but the preview is incorrect so I can't continue refining the sim. Has anyone encountered this?

Bug with Phoenix FD Previews in Maya

Hey, do you mean the mesh preview specifically, or the particle, voxel or gpu preview do the same?
If this concerns only the mesh preview, do you use Maya Mesh mode in the viewport, or static/dynamic mesh?
Also, I assume you are already using Phoenix 4.41 and not some older version?

Latest version of Phoenix yes, and I'm using the Phoenix mesh preview (not maya mesh) and yes Mesh and particle all do the same.
I think I've just isolated the issue to turning on 'use default material', turning this off seems to fix the issue. Its like that function is getting stuck on a particular frame, so perhaps its a Maya bug?
re-enabling 'use default material' puts it back into the buggy state again so I'm having to leave this disabled

Hey,
Thanks for the information! We reproduced the problem here as well.
The bug seems to happen when "smooth shade on" and "use default material" are enabled together, so you can disable one or both of them as a workaround.
As Svetlin said, we will update the thread, when we have more information.
Hope this helps!Slavina Nikolova

Alrighty, so seems like the bug happens in Maya 2022 only. I will add a fix for it in tomorrow's nightlies, which would show properly all Phoenix previews (bounding boxes, particles, voxels, mesh, streamlines), except for the GPU preview which seems to be simply destroyed by overriding the Material, so it will just be disabled.
Cheers and thanks a ton for reporting this!Svetlin Nikolov, Ex Phoenix team lead
