    Hey,

Why do you expect Phoenix to install V-Ray?

    Cheers!

I just thought it would be a nice thing for it to do.

Actually that was the middle of the night, after a couple days racking my brain how my simulation changed that i had almost perfect before.. finally i realized it had to be some change in Phoenix or V-Ray itself so i uninstalled, installed older versions of Phoenix-Ray.. loosing uninstallers as i went along, making even more problems.. (uninstalling phoenix removes vrays uninstaller)..

but now that ive got your attention...

Can you tell me why my scene file from a year ago, in phoenix 4 and 4.1 produces this result which is what i want.

But phoenix 4.41 gives me this from the exact same scene file

I dont want to sim this part of my multiple sim scene in one version and then reinstall to finish and render the rest but i cant figure out whats different in the way the 2 versions simulate

      Thankyou!

Oh, there are several reasons why this would not be a good idea:
        - Phoenix is a separate product. It's bought separately, so you might want to have both, or only V-Ray, or only Phoenix - it also can render with Corona and Octane, and many of the render modes work with other renderers too, check here for more info: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...+in+a+Nutshell
        - The Phoenix installers are between 30 and 70 MB, while V-Ray's installers are between 300 and 500MB, so it's not really practical to download all of that if you need just Phoenix.
        - The versions - you might need a specific V-Ray version and you would not want Phoenix to overwrite that. And vice versa...

As for the ununstaller - each Phoenix and V-Ray installation has its own separate uninstaller, e.g.:
        C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\Phoenix FD\3ds Max 2022 for x64\uninstall
        C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\Phoenix FD\3ds Max 2021 for x64\uninstall
        C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\3ds Max 2022\uninstall
etc. Maybe something else was actually going on?

One more note - it's best to install V-Ray first and Phoenix second on a fresh machine that did not have them at all before. This is also a good practice if you are installing a different major version, e.g. you had Phoenix 3 and are now installing Phoenix 4, or vice versa.

I can't really say without the options - it could be a sim difference, or a render difference. Would it be possible to send the scene over? If it's confidential, please send it over to our support via this form: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Hi, sorry for the late reply.. Ive been trying to figure it out. it's definitely the simulation itself, both were rendered in the latest V-Ray 5.. its the exact same project file only the phoenix version changed
It seems like there is some change in the simulation physics between v4 and 4.4.. there are half the total particles in the scene. the sim with 4.4 starts with even more liquid particles!

*what does the difference in velocity mean? is there a difference in the drag/air effects between the them?

The difference in velocity could mean a million things - it is what drives everything in the simulation, so I cannot really start listing everything. If possible, please send the scene over.

              Cheers!

Im happy to to send my scene but you dont need it.
In maya, (2018.6) and the latest phoenix v4.41, create a 1x1x3 cm cube, apply the waterfall preset on the shelf and run 46 frames and this is the result..

Click image for larger version Name:	Snap11117287.jpg Views:	0 Size:	106.3 KB ID:	1124251

Open and run that same scene file in phoenix v4.10 46 frames and this is the result...

You can do it the other way around.. create the scene in 4.10 like i did mine a year ago and same result. half the density of particles in v4.41 and a physically and visually different simulation

                Thankyou

Ah, okay, this works as well I see you have used the waterfall preset, so if you don't have any modifications, I will check it and update you with more info.

Hey, so the change that caused the difference is a bugfix that went into Phoenix 4.30: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX4MAX/4.30.00:
"Newborn Splash particles kept splitting and creating more Splashes underwater"

After this got fixed, the splash is now less, and since the splash gives birth to mist and foam, the mist and foam are now also less than before: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...les+Life+Cycle

I will play around with the Waterfall toolbar preset and try to return it back to the previous particle counts, and meanwhile you can try increasing the:
                    - Splash Amount
                    - Foam on Hit Amount
                    - Splash to Mist
All of these are under the Splash/Mist rollout.

I will also ping you when I get to the preset.

                    Cheers!

                      Hey,

We've updated the Waterfall preset and now it should work and look pretty much the same as before.

The update is already in Nightlies. In this topic you could find useful information about how to get Nightly Builds: https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...nightly-builds

Please ping us in case there are any issues.

                      Cheers!
