  • Fatal memory error

    Hello there!

I'm feeling that this is either bug or something wrong with my scene... I'm attempting to perform resimulation on my PheonixFD smoke setup, however, I'm running into the dreaded "Fatal error during simulation start! Please close other running applications, reduce the grid resolution and try again." message.

My confusion here is that my base simulation is only 900,000 cells, and my workstation has 256GB of RAM. When running resimulation, it reaches roughly 19GB of RAM, before the error occurs. No other sizable applications run in the background during this process.

I've attached some various screenshots, I hope you'll be able to deduce something from this

Currently using Windows 10, 3ds Max 2022, Vray 5, and the latest nightly build of PheonixFD (6th November 2021)

    Thank you so much!

Just as an update, creating a new phoenix simulator seemed to get me around this, so I'll consider that a success for now! Thanks either way!

Hmm, could it be that preallocation was enabled with adaptive grid? It's at the bottom of the Grid rollout. It would occupy 90% of the free memory by default, so if memory of other processes or even plugins goes up and down, this could be the problem. Try disabling preallocation on your original scene.

      Cheers!
