  • PhoenixFD is crashing max

    Hello
I've just finished my first scene using 3ds max 2023, Vray 6.00.08 and Phoenix 5.01.00 for V-Ray 6, simulation went just fine, but as soon i start render 3ds max crashes

Unfortunately i dont have any log files, so i cant really figure out whats happening here
Anyone has an idea how i can get this fixed?

    As additional info:
The crashes happen when i want to render Liquid sim, it does work fine when i render smoke/explosion

I also noticed that i have issues importing vdb files into UE5 when the sim is generating anything liquid related, when i import vdb, generated from smoke/explosion, into UE5 then it works just fine

    Hey,

Can you send over the scene along with a cache or two so that we can check out what is going on?

Can you also send over the Phoenix log right after the crash (if it crashes and you restart Max, the log will be reset) - it is located at C:\ChaosPhoenix

Also does it crash with any scene or just this specific one?

Also as for Unreal if you're using the eidosmontreal's plugin to load VDBs, they support only fog volumes for now and no particles, so what you can do instead is export the liquids as meshes (in alembic format for examle) and load this into Unreal.

    Thanks!

      Hi Georgi
      thanks for your reply
I did create a new scene from scratch and before i added vegetation, using forest pack, i could test render the scene without any issues, as soon i added FP i would get the same problem again, Max crashed. So I think the culprit is FP and i will open a support ticket with the itoo guys.
Will keep you updated on thios matter

Ah, yes, it could be that you need a new Forest Pack build that supports V-Ray 6. Not sure if there already is one, so indeed better check with the iToo guys.

          Hi Svetlin,

I figured it out, the problem was that the FP part was created with an older FP version, which doesnt suppports vray6, so after i recreated the scene with the latest FP version, everything is running as expected

Not sure why the FP objects didnt upgrade themselve, afetr i installed the update, but i guess it is what it is, at least now its working 100%

          Thanks again for your help

Huh, yes, I would expect the objects to upgrade indeed. Thank you and glad it is working now!
