  • Ocean subdiv doesn't work

    Hi,
It used to work with octane but now ocean is all smooth and doesn't get subdivided in phoenix rendering tab. No matter what sub level I set it too. Thanks

    Hey,

Which versions of Phoenix and Octane are you using?

Is it possible to render infinite ocean with foam&splashes in octane ? I'd be very curious about that.

Last time we checked it was possible, but not sure if the Octane guys added support for Phoenix 5, or they still support Phoenix up to version 4.

        georgi.zhekov, I saw the version in the screenshot - it's Octane 2020.2.5 - 11.14.

          Hey,

Seems like the rendering of the Ocean mesh in Octane is linked to the viewport mesh preview and Octane will render only what's shown in the viewport. Maybe this got changed around some Octane update - it's best to ping the Octane guys about it.

You can use the script option of the Phoenix simulator to turn on full detail for the mesh preview.

With the simulator selected you can use $.oceanforcerenddetail = true inthe MaxScript listener window.

          Here is what it does:

oceanforcerenddetail – Script parameter that allows to build the viewport Ocean with the rendering detail, otherwise a simplified version will be used for the viewport preview.
