  • grid hitting limit?

I've been working on trying to do some planetary clouds and have been increasing my grid size as i go and learn about how to do them better, but have I hit some sort of limit in the grid? I'm simulating flat to make a texture and it was going well for a few weeks, but I sized up my grid again, and now it seems like the smoke is just stopping in certain areas. My whole viewport should be full of smoke, but instead you can see in the preview the bottom is cut off. My scene scale is in KM, I'm guessing I'll have to size my grid X and Y down a bit.. I'm on Phoenix 5.01.01 and Vray 6

    Hey,

Are Your Container Walls set to Open? How is Your Adaptive Grid set - you might need to change the Threshold and Extra Margin values. Here You can find more info about these options - https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...ContainerWalls and https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...d-AdaptiveGrid

    Hope this helps!

Also, another question, if you have Grid Velocity exported from the Output rollout, could you screenshot the Cache Content Info box of the Simulation rollout? Perhaps the velocities created by the forces are way too high?

I'm not using adaptive grid, and my container walls are using X-Wrap and Y/Z Jammed both, which I've been using for a while on this w/o issue. I'm using Max's newer (to me anyway, Motion Fields, perhaps I messed something up on it yesterday. Here's a screenshot of my velocity. That sounds like it could be something to look into. Not sure what the value is supposed to be.

Huh, well I deleted my box emitter (literally just a box primitive!) and made a new one, now it seems to be working ok again! Strange...I guess it's solved now. Thanks for the help as always!

Huh, weird. The velocity is high, but not extreme as it would be if the solver went out of control. Perhaps it was a perfect storm of the box's position and the forces, can't really say.
