  • Strange Lighting Anomaly Using Infinite Oceam

Hi, newbie here. I've been trying to figure out what is causing the strange lighting anomaly as shown in my rendering that occurs periodically (see attached). Clearly it is caused by the Infinite Ocean. I'm using Phoenix 5 on 3DS Max 2023 and V-Ray 5 with 32.0 GB of RAM.

    Thanks in advance,

    Kevin

Oh wow, haven't seen something like this.

Could you check the Phoenix log in C:\ChaosPhoenix right after you get this problem and look for any [WARNING] or [ERROR] tags?

    Cheers!

      Hi Svetlin,

I did repeatedly get this: [WARNING] Build Mesh: No extBordVrtIndices! in the log which I have no idea what it is referring to.

      Thank you,

      Kevin

Oh, so something went wrong when connecting the mesh covering the simulator box with the infinite ocean mesh. Then it's not an out of memory issue or an issue caused by the velocity of the vertices, but rather most likely it's a bug in the meshing. Could I ask you to send over the scene if possible, together with 1 AUR cache file for the frame when it appears. If there are any geometries in the scene which are confidential, you should be able to safely delete them, as long as the camera and Simulator's settings and position remain intact, or you could send it privately using support.chaos.com and submit a request from the upper right corner.

        Thank you!

          Hello Svetlin,

I was able to correct my issue - momentarily at least - by raising the Mesh Smoothing to 3 in the Rendering tab or palette of the Infinite Ocean. The problem has not returned since. However! should it return I will gladly send over the scene along with the AUR cache file to support.chaos.com.

Thank you for your prompt replies!
