Please what do you mean by color mapping type?Last edited by Jiri.Matys; 20-04-2023, 02:18 AM.AMD TR 7980X, 256GB DDR5, GeForce RTX 4090 24GB, Win 10 Pro

Ya for sure....the render doesnt look linear to me. With those levels of brightness, Id expect to see some seriously nasty looking linear transitions, until a highlight compression was done in post. So either in VFB, or in render settings, there is something that isnt default. Have you made a new scene, set vray settings to default, and also posted your VFB display settings screen grab on here?
Also, check that the exr colour corrections is disabled in the image output options. (Ive got it enabled in my screen grab)

Render is linear, scene is without any problem, I can see 32bit in VFB, there are real pixels. It is cropped after save.
I make a simple scene and post it here.AMD TR 7980X, 256GB DDR5, GeForce RTX 4090 24GB, Win 10 Pro

Hmm, so when I am making simple scene to test it, i found out that 32bit is working without any problem unless I add filmic tonemaping in the VFB stack. After that whole image is cropped to 0-255 even I saved it as 32bit. In VFB I can move exposure and see all the informations without any problems.
Ok, so probably becouse it is cropped in VFB after exposure is change. After that is applied filmic tonemaping which is cropping the curve, right?
Is there any way to make it to work with filmic tonemapping applied? Or did you guys removing tonemapping when saving to 32bit?
Thank you.Last edited by Jiri.Matys; 20-04-2023, 06:28 AM.AMD TR 7980X, 256GB DDR5, GeForce RTX 4090 24GB, Win 10 Pro

Well,
over the course of this whole thread, you said you do not have any tone mapping applied, and now you have found out that you have?
That is the issue, then. Many corrections in the VFB break linear output: LUT, Filmic Tonemapping, Highlight Compression, and even simple things like Curves or Contrast. Avoid all of these if you want full linear output with the highest dynamic range.

You untick tick the box in the exr settings that I screen grabbed....VFB is not meant to save layer corrections to exr formats, unless you tell it to. So you can use all the corrections to pre-vis the output, and then save a linear image, and do your compression in post. At least thats my understanding of it. If you are talking about manually saving a file from the VFB, then thats probably different, as I dont ever do that, so I can see why that would perhaps bake in the tonemapping.
What I do when I need a single frame out (or animation), and I want to keep tonemapping on in VFB, but save a linear image is:
untick "dont save image"
untick "render animation in batch mode"
set frame range 1 to 1 (or whatever frame you want)
untick save colour corrections to raw file
This is my go to setup as you can see your render in the VFB, it will output a linear file, and ytou dont even have to manually hit "file - save". It also works well for when you render animations and what to see the progress in the VFB. You can use "render sequence" in maya rendering tab.Last edited by seandunderdale; 21-04-2023, 02:00 AM.
