  • Viewport playback slow even when phoenix fd is hidden

When i create a phoenix sim, the playback in my viewport becomes very choppy even when i hide phoenix fd. A weird work around is that if i hide phoenix and then delete it, hit undo so it appears back hidden from when i deleted it, The playback works. but once i unhide it and then hide it again, it's laggy, like it is calculating it in the scene in the background.

    Cheers,

    L

    Hey,

Can you give us a bit more info - which Phoenix version are you using, is it in Max or in Maya and which version, does it happen with every scene or just with this specific one, are there any other nodes in the scene besides the Phoenix simulator?

    Thanks!

Sorry, should have included that info. I am using 3ds max 2023 Phoenix fd 5.10.00 I used the preset explosion sim, so there is a PHXSource in the scene. but that is it. and a caharacter i am animating, but nothing else.

Could you please try something - under the Phoenix FD menu -> Preferences, there is an option for the verbosity of the Phoenix log. Please set it to debug, then let the scene be slow for 1 minute an then please send the log over - maybe it would reveal something.

Also, if you delete all caches of the Simulator, is it still slow?

lukepenry it's a year later so maybe this isn't still an issue for you, but I was having the same problem and found that if you turn off the "GPU Shaded Preview" (even if hidden) it no longer drags your playback.
