When I do a render by selection, the VFB doesn't clear each time. Basically, I have to render out some masks, and each time I have to manualy clear the buffer.

There's a setting for that in Render Setup > Settings > System > Previous Render. The "Clear" mode should do what you wish.

You have to click the "Basic/Advanced" button for the setting to appear.
