  • Does phoenix v5.1 for vray6 still come with .ZIP install opposed to .EXE ?

Just upgrading to phoenix 5.1 for V-Ray 6 on Microsoft Windows 64 for Maya 2023 and although I was able to download the .EXE version of the installer, I could not see the ,ZIP version. Most recent ZIP version I see is for phoenix 5.00.00 for V-Ray 5 for Maya 2023. Did chaosgroup stop building ZIP versions as of V-Ray 6, or are they in a different location? Meanwhile I will try the EXE and extract the files into a folder.

The zip is now a part of the installer, user following command to extract it:
    phoenixFD_adv_52001_maya2022_vray6_x64.exe -unpackInstall=C:\temp\phoenix_52001_32175

where C:\temp\phoenix_52001_32175 is your extract location

Thank you Dmitry. I did try running the .exe and grabbing the files, but having a .zip is much easier at least for me (I mentioned I'm on WIndows).

Take care and thank you for the reply. Trying it out now.

        Hey,

Indeed we're already shipping only the installer files which can be unpacked and you get all of the functionality the zip builds provided. You can find more info on the different options to unpack the builds here - https://docs.chaos.com/display/PHX4M...trary+Location

        Cheers!

Sorry, another question. And note that we were previously on VRay Next and Phoenix v4. We run a thin client installation with a network license server. All the install documentation seems to focus on local installs, not thin client setup. So what we did before was unzip vray into a network folder, update the license file to point to the chaos server, the copy in the phoenix plug-in and replace two of the vray DLLs with phoenix versions. There were also some attribute editor files etc. which were copied in. Basically you ended up with a patch vray folder on disk and when you launched Maya with all the env vars correctly set, you could open the vray plugin as well as phoenix and do intreactive vray rendering in Maya with phoenix as well as vray standalone with phoenix. Now that we are upgrading, are the install instructions still the same and where are they located?
          Thanks.

The process should be the same, you can check the link I shared above on the install process should look like when using unpacked install.
The V-Ray install instructions can be found here - https://docs.chaos.com/display/VMAYA...e+Installation

If you have any issues with the setup, please ping us and we will try to help.

The V-Ray install instructions you linked above for the "Maya Portable Installation" don't mention Phoenix. As you mentioned that nothing has changed in this area, I will patch our V-Ray installation with Phoenix in the same way we did in the past. I'll log a support ticket if I have any additional problems. Thank you.
