GPU Preview just black

When I switch to Phoenix GPU preivew, the viewport is just black...am I doing something wrong ?

Im running Windows 7 64 bit and max 2011.

the GPU preview shows the selected phoenix object using the active viewport transformation. so it is normal to start as black, because it starts as active and you have to select some other viewport as active.
