seems like vrayambientlight causes trouble from the message, but deleting it still crashes render

i suppose it's a memory overflow. there is a warning in the help that you can very easy cause a crash using this control, but documenting a problem is not a good solution at all.
we are considering to modify this option to use the point shader instead fog, it produces better results and is safe.

i read the warning, but since it was regarded the fog resolution i didn't think any more about it. upping the fog resolution to 4 solves the problem, thanks!

i love the point shader, but the amount of particles needed for good/exaggerated results is scary sometimes, especially at full HD.
please don't remove the fog below option, the effect is great and fast!

Another plus of the fog mode is that it can use light cache, so it can really be much faster. But I don't think this option is in 3ds Max yet.
