  • cant find a license w/ nightly builds

I just got access to the nightly builds, installed it on my workstation and now it cant find a license. Does it need to be installed on the license server too?
If not, does anyone know why it would suddenly not be able to find a license?

It was the most recent stable build installed previously. IT is reluctant to go installing new versions on our license server just to check and I cant find any mention of having to do this (with good reason, we shouldn't have to touch it that often)

try to open in the browser the license server page, it is accessible at licserver:30304/getstatus
see the available licenses, or better show them us

as i remember there were changes in the license server one year ago. vray 2.4 uses the old one, phoenix uses the new one, even in the builds for vray 2.4
the new one supports vray 2.4 too, so you have to instal the license server of phoenix. reinstall the product and agree to install license server.

Can you try with a bit older build from last week? We switched the V-Ray nightly builds to the official 3.0 licensing and it looks like this may have inadvertently affected other products.

          Best regards,

            Hi,

            Try to do the following:
*) terminate the existing license server
*) start the license server from Program Files\Chaos Group\Phoenix FD\3ds Max xxx\Launch Phoenix FD license server
            *) restart Max
            *) run Phoenix simulation again

              30th of jan ok?
Will try it later today, thanks! hopefully this works as it means I don't have to convince IT to do anything to the license server.

Yes, that should be fine. You shouldn't have to do anything to your license server.

                Best regards,

I'm a little late, but it still cant find a license with jan 30th.

re-installed the official build and it works fine.

edit: cant get a license with the nightly from december the 10th ether.

We're upgrading to vray 3.0 very soon - I believe we already have it.

I assume from vlado's comment above that when we update our license server the newer nightly builds will start to work for me, I can wait it out. It was to do some non-urgent testing, i've still got a month or so before i'll need to use it for real.

Please make sure that you are running the latest V-Ray license server on the machine where the dongle is. It should be the license server that comes with V-ray 3.0.

If you still have problems with the Phoenix nightly build license, please send a support request to support@chaosgroup.com
                          Thanks.

It is, yeah - everyone has moved over to vray 3.0 now. our IT is kind of sick of this and is asking me not to use beta software any more :/

Is there a timeline for the next official build of phoenix?

Is the ability to get a license remotely disabled in the nightly builds or something? I'm in miami and the license server for everything is in NYC. NYC's servers are mapped locally and can be browsed from my machine here - it's only the nightly builds that cant get a license from it though.
