  • Restore Simulation taking too long?

    Hi,

I need to restore a simulation, because the hard disk ran out of space and before I noticed the sim already had skipped a couple of frames.
I´ve used the "restore" option a couple of times before and it never took so long to start.
Since I have no idea how restoring works - I´m just guessing here that it´s a problem that I´m trying to restore at a late point of the sim (after about 600 frames)?
I already cancelled the process twice, I´m going to let it run now, even though it already took half an hour and it hasn´t even finished the first frame to be restored, maybe it just takes so long to read the info of the sim up to that point and will be faster afterward....

Just checking if anything has changed or if it just takes that long.

no, it's not normal to be long, i suppose the file is damaged (this happens at low disk space) and this causes the hang. can you try with early backup file?

Do you mean the scene file or the cache file?
Because the cache file up to the point were it skipped some frames seems to be fine, if I display the mesh in viewport.
I just let the first frame finish and it grew from 150 MB to 1.7 GB, so there is definitely something wrong here.
I´m gonna recheck the scene file and revert to an earlier version. I´m instancing the same fluid sim in this scene for several boats in a fleet, so I might have changed something else here...

With an earlier cache file that is.
Is there any re-simulation involved, or just restoring a regular simulation? Any foam and splash? Can you screenshot your settings?
