  • cache size between builds has doubled

    Hi guys,

Sorry the subject lacks a little info..

I've finally been able to get back on water work and have found that my cache sizes have doubled simming the same scene from build 25087 to build 25347 but with a 3dsmax wind added.

This is doing a mesh-only water sim - no particles.

Just wondering what new data would be stored by adding a wind, if something has changed, or if I'm looking at an issue.

Without the new wind spacewarp added, I notice that the cache is about 10% larger than in the older build.

    Thanks very much!

well, if the size increase remains with the *exactly* the same scene, we have a problem. but modifying the scene by wind, you change the scene and this no equal size is expected. the cache size is very sensitive to the velocity channel, because the compression works better on smooth data, like the smoke or the liquid, but the velocity is very noisy. that's why the starting cache files are few k in size, they have still no turbulence.

I see. Thanks Ivaylo. Also, I forgot about the compression and how velocities in the grid would affect the cache size.
