I have some thick fluid oozing through crevices - all seems pretty good until some of the sims just explode after 150 frames (or thereabouts). The fluid behaves erratically, like a wind has been turned on.

sounds like I need to update Phoenix, there is no FLIP option in the Advection Method.
I have some decent results but stuff that breaks away from the bulk of the liquid tends to slide across the surface like it was on ice and destroys the illusion of globby ooze. Is there a way to have 'friction' on the collision objects? I have tried reducing the velocity multiplier but doesn't seem to affect it.Last edited by magilla; 05-02-2015, 06:27 PM.

It will be best to get a fresh nightly build - I think your problem with friction should be resolved, judging by this video:

got the nightly - used the flip solver - particles are also being emitted without the particle checkbox being ticked. Are these are the flip particles?
no explosions in the sim but the behaviour of the liquid is quite erratic. There is no Strong Surface mode any more, what technique do you recommend to remove the flickering blobs?
edit: Scene scale is the culprit, set it to 20 and the fluid settles down but still has flickering edges.
this is with scene scale at 1
