  • liquid artifacts / weird refractions

    Hello guys,
currently Im trying to do a liquid simulation with Phoenix FD. I have some issues with the Render Gizmo because when I use it, the grid artifacts getting better but I get some strange refractions (picture below). Is there a way to get the old refractions (without Render Gizmo) back with a Gizmo applied?
    Hope you understand my Problem

    Thanks in advance,
    Sascha

really strange, the liquid looks like mercury .
i have no idea how this happens, can you send the scene to the support?

        Good Morning
here is the testscene I'm working on. In the end, I have to do a sim like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDJhhFy9gb8
Do you think it's possible to achieve a good result? my approach was, to create 8 emitter at the bottom shooting liquid front up.

        Cheers
        Sascha

ok, we will test the scene.
btw, for this kind of simulation better ask the support to get nightly access and to use the flip solver

ok, thanks so far, I have the license infos from our IT, do I have to log in with this data, or can I ask the support in this forum?

Email support about access to nightlies. They normally ask for account name the license is under along with the wibu serial key for Phoenix. Best check first though

Ive prepared an email, but I have to clarify it first with our it support. the guy, who handels our network and software is on vacation :/... that's also why Im a little insecure to install new software, wont crash the whole system with vray and stuff
hope I can check it soon

Is there although a chance to get the refractions right? today I tested an other scene and it seems, that there are dark refractioins on the right in general. Is there any workaround ?

                Thanks guys,
                Sascha

hopefully today we will be able to give you a workaround. 100% sure the problem is avoidable, because our beer scene is rendering water in glass and it's ok

yes, I saw the clip with the beer sim, looks realy great maybe its sth with the maya render gizmo.
thank you so far, looking forward

Any updates on this? I'm having the same issue with a recent nightly (Maya version). All the builds I've attempted this on have had this issue. The gizmo distorts the reflection something fierce (example image below). Let me know if you'd like to take a peak at the scene. Pretty straight forward (copied the pipe the fluid was simulated through, extruded it inwards, check normals of course, applied it as a inverted render gizmo)

not sure that is an issue, the steps have normals parallel to the axes, with the gizmo thy are changed and is expected to have different reflections

I'll take your word for it! Do the normals from the gizmo get used then as it is in essence the clipping object? Thanks.

they should be, but better don't trust my words and check this, there is a very simple way - create a copy of the gizmo, and assign the water material to it, the gizmo should look similar to the zones where it affects the liquid.
