  • Particles to Cubes?

    Hi

I got an odd result simulating an explosion emitted by pflow particles (sphere with 20 polies). The Prt Shape is set to "Use size, sphere". The explosion looks nice, apart from the emitting particles are not spheres but cubes, which kind of spoils it. Why is that?

    I am using rev. 25691.

    Hello Truffi,

It's possible you've hit a nightly when we were making big changes to the sources and interaction. Is it still the same with a more recent nightly?

Ah, nevermind, happens with the latest nightly too. Thanks for reporting that! I will update you when it's fixed.

        Hello Svetlin

I haven't tried this with another build and I don't dare to because of that at the moment, since 25691 is running on the render farm.

This problem was solved easily now by instead choosing "Use Prt shape" in the settings of the source.

But since there are other bugs occuring with this build, upgrading might turn out to be necessary later on. Can you name the latest most stable version?

One of the more severe bugs with build 25691, the Phoenix properties dialogue can not be opened. But I guess you guys should have solved that by now..

I would say 26021 from 15 July is a bit more stable, although lacking some improvement and fixes for atmospherics.

Or you can take a chance with tomorrow's nightly (13 Aug) - we've been stabilizing for the last couple of days and the cubic particle issue's fix will be included too, along with many others - related to resimulation, massive smoke vorticity, PCG conservation and sources and scene interaction.

The Phx props should be long fixed as well - maybe it was broken just for a day.

Great news and thanks - I think I will do the update then.

Another strange behavior I observed regarding lighting:
in build 25691, it doesn't work to exclude a simulation from lighting in the general parameters of lights, neither with vray lights nor with standard ones, which feels like a pretty basic feature PhoenixFD should have.

Please if possible, if you did not already do that, it would be very helpful if you add that in (especially for faking the explosion's lighting on a scene by placing an omnilight inside the explosion - for that I'd really need the omnilight to be able to ignore the sim).

Hmm, should work since November with Phoenix. You need a new V-Ray though - either a nightly after July 2014, or V-Ray 3.2.

Let me see if it hasn't broken meanwhile.

Negative - with a latest Phoenix nightly and V-Ray 3.2 it works fine here. If you update and it still happens on your side, may I ask you for a simple scene where the issue occurs?

I am still using Vray 2.2.. There we have it..
But it gives me a good argument to have that upgraded too.

Oh, that's it then - the exclude lists for Phoenix were possible after changes in V-Ray that came even after 3.0 - I have to check the release dates, but I think 3.1 will work.

You can try rendering in Geometry Atmosphere mode though - the above applies only to Atmosphere mode. It will be slower, but in theory it should work even with the old V-Ray.
