  • Grid resize

    Morning!

When using the grid resize etc the sim pauses once the upper limits have been hit and displays a message. Is it possible to have this message removed and just carry on simulating at the upper limit. It isnt the best thing to happen when doing a long weekend sim

If I've missed something though, please say!

Huh, this sounds like a bug, it shouldn't do that. Let me try and reproduce it.

Just re-simulating one of the latest frames to see if it was the memory maxing out etc. I saw the message box when remoting in using my phone so it was all a bit quick in pressing buttons :P

Couldn't repro it here with a fresh scene. In theory, it should to that when you're out of memory, or max will crash otherwise. It could have been fooled by the "Max Memory %" - if you had little ram available when you started the sim and later it got freed, the sim will stop nevertheless when it reaches the threshold it saw at the beginning of the simulation.

Hmmm the sim is getting upto 10gig usage. The machine has 30gig total (seem to have lost 2gig!) and no other major programs running.

I see, the memory limit is reached indeed, I'll think about hiding the message, it shouldn't halt the sim.

Gotta check if the memory counting routine is working well also. I think you should disable the max memory % option just in case.

                  Hey,

In tomorrow's (Friday, 23 Oct) nightly there will be a revised adaptive grid method that should not expand to huge volumes without apparent reason, and also should be able to handle better quick bursts that require rapid expansion. There is another fix too - until now if Phoenix found that you will go over the memory limit with preallocation enabled, it didn't expand up to that limit, but instead skipped expanding altogether for that frame and remained whatever size it was so far, even if that was a lot smaller than the limit. Now it will expand as much as memory allows it to. I've also hidden the warning message, maybe I'll make it a timed dialog that closes automatically after a few seconds or just leave it in the log. However, with the new adaptation method you should not be seeing this kind of warning at all when doing regular stuff

Thanks Svetlin, just in time as setting another large sim off :P
