  • Phoenix FD splash sim - foam strange behaviour!?

    Hello guys,

I am trying to make a splash screen water sim inspired by this video that I stumbled on the net, but I am getting some odd behaviour of my foam..

I have some examples of what my WIP looks like here:

You can clearly see the two areas where my foam is forming some streaks/lines and not a pattern, because of unknown reason to me..
here is a quick render straight out of VRay

here you can even see that there is a square like area right in the middle of the sim where the pattern is quite smaller but still standing out from the rest. Is this normal as well?
Any ideas why the foam is forming this way at particularly these areas?

I am also a new user to the forum and even though I used some time, I could not find anything similar to this. So if you guys have solved this already, please forward me to the right thread!

    Thanks in advance!
    Best,
    Stoimen

almost sure this is related to the geometry representation in the core, is this official version or nightly?
    can you try the following
    1. open the listener
    2. select the simulator
    3. type $.zmr=1
    4. simulate
5 enable the smoke preview and show us the content

      Hey Ivaylo,
      Thanks for the quick one!
Yes, this is an official version.

I just made a test following your points and hopefully this is what you wanted to see. If not, please let me know.

the preview looks pretty normal, but i have no other ideas, the pattern very strongly points to geometry problem. perhaps it appears only in single frame, but this is enough to form this strange pattern.
well, since the official release we have fixed many issues, my suggestion is to get a nightly build and try with it.
beside the pattern issue, you can try to use the flip solver, it gives better results for liquid simulations.

hi again and thanks for the help!

I am already on the way of getting permission to the night builds! Hopefully I wouldn't have this problem there! aaand looking forward to check the flip sover

          Cheers!
