  • Phoenix and Aerial Perspective

    Morning!

Just installed vray 3.30.04 and todays nightly Phoenix. Simmed a really really simple fire/smoke setup, added vray sun and aerial perspective and hit render. Phoenix is rendered as the background so any objects that are physically behind the grid actually render in front of the grid

Turn aerial perspective off and renders as expected.

Anyway I found this by accident. If it is supposed to happen then ignore me. I have no need for it but might be useful for you guys to see!

Well, I would say it is somewhat expected...

    Best regards,

It is? Would be nice to use Phoenix with Aerial perspective, gives such a nice look to the scene. With it on the splash/foam fails to render correctly as just trying it with a liquid setup.

      Thanks

            Hey,

Um, back on this after a long while - this turns out to be a limitation of V-Ray, because of the way it deals with 3ds max atmospheric effects, such as the Aerial Perspective and Phoenix. There are two ways to workaround the issue:

            - If the Phoenix geometry overlaps with the rest of the geometry in the sense that it's not strictly ahead of it or behind it, you should render in Geometry Volumetric mode - this way Phoenix will act like a hard transparent geometry and will sort properly along with the other geometries.

            - Otherwise, you could just swap the order of the Aerial Perspective and Phoenix in the Effects list, but I imagine this will never be the case in a real scene
