  • Memory Leak?

Morning! I'm using the nightly as of the 8th March, Max 2014 vray 3.

Im doing quite a low res simulation and the required memory shows as very low but memory usage is building up and up. Here is a pic:

Since writing this, the usage has got to 23gig. Time to restart max again soon.

Here is the log if it helps!

Maybe it is a dodgy scene, who knows

    Thanks

Actually I think the reason for the increase is the seperate grid I have just for loading the cache, retiming using the Velocity frame blend and rendering. It spikes when using velocity blend. Is this normal to spike this much?

*It does not release the memory when switching back to linear input or changing back to frame interpolation.

        Hey,

You sure you are not using adaptive grid with pre-allocation?

        Cheers!

The blending will keep the last two nearest caches in the memory as long as the produced frame is between these... but switching to linear mode should have released the memory. lf you scroll the timeline to an empty frame, is the memory usage back to normal?

I didn't use adaptive as that sometimes leads to a max crash with a liquid Sim. Not sure what the pre-allocation is as cant see it Anyway I have just switched it back to Interpolation and gone to a blank frame, it does not release the memory. Also tried switching back to Linear Mode and gone to a blank frame and does not release the memory either.

            Thanks

Roger that, something's definitely not right then. Will try to reproduce and will get back to you.

              Cheers!

the liquid simulator has no preallocation, because the actual data is kept in particles, the grid has very low memory footprint, and no need to preallocate .
but when you have crash, tell us, and if possible send a scene
