  • Maya/Phoenix - Playback start using same cache file

I'm thinking this is a bug, but I might be doing something stupid here...

So I have one cache running through two sims (input only for rendering. Separate from actually simulating the cache). I wanted playback to be staggered so the only difference between the two Phoenix Sims was the playback start time.

The farm we have at our place (dinky farm) didn't recognize that the playback was different on the Phoenix Simulators (my local machine did so there was difference in the rendered buckets from my workstation and hour farm). So it rendered both the simulations at the same start time (so no staggering).

After troubleshooting for no less than 3 hours, I decided to attempt to copy the cache, rename the cache files (and add a prefix to all the .aur files to ensure they weren't crossing paths), and pump one cache into one sim and the copied, renamed cache into the second sim. Worked.

    Latest nightly. Thanks.

very interesting, is it sure that the versions of the slaves and the workstation are the same?

Indeed, there seem to be some DR issues in Phoenix for Maya - thanks for the heads-up! I'll update you when it's fixed.

      Cheers!

All slaves and workstation are running the same latest nightly for both Vray and Phoenix (as of yesterday). At first I thought I was missing Phoenix buckets which really got me worried.

Also.. Any idea why Deadline wouldn't be able to render Phoenix elements? I contacted their support, but they said I would need to talk to you guys. Everything works with Vray DR, but it seems that only the machines with the full install of Phoenix (not just render install) work. I have 2 machines I switch off between when I sim. My workstation and one of our slaves with the most ram (only one license so use one or the other).

The machines with the just the render install of Phoenix don't render anything from Phoenix (but everything else). Will I run into any problems just installing the full Phoenix version on all the slaves?

        Best,
        Clayton

          Hey,

So the DR issue will be fixed for tomorrow's nightly (30 Mar), actually if you export to vrscene and render with V-Ray standalone, there was the same bug.

I have not seen the Deadline issue before, sounds like it should have been working with render install as well. If you install the full Phoenix on the slaves, I think it won't make any difference as long as you just render on them.

          Cheers!
