  • Kind of solver.... gone?????

HI! I just installed the latest version after a few months to be away.... I can't find anymore the kind of a solver I want to use, has it all be changed to FLIP and now that is the only solver available??? if so, what happens with old scenes? or I'm blind and can't see it???

    Thanks!

oh yes... the dynamics tab is completely different.... lots of things are gone... vorticity is not there anymnore, randomize, conservation, material transfer... all gone!!!!! how do I know how to use this now?

There are two kinds of simulators you can create - the Liquid sim is just FLIP now. If you open an old scene and it contains the mixed PHXSimulator objects, you will still be able to use it, but you just won't be able to create a new one anymore.

The fire/smoke solver still contains the vorticity, randomize, etc settings. Vorticity didn't apply to any liquids for a long time now, randomize doesn't apply to FLIP.

so the FLIP got to be stable enough to replace the others?

What is the droplets surfing? Consumed liquid and sticky effect on wetting?

is the confine geometry new? I do not remember seen it before, does it means if I turn it foo that things can go outside of the bundary box?

There are still some rough edges, but it's getting there

Confine geometry is a new name for the 'grid gizmo', check the forum for the other options, got asked a couple of hours ago

thanks! Wonder why the other options got removed if FLIP is still not at full capacity.... is FLIP supposed to be faster or better?

Yup, it's better than the old solver

              Which options do you mean?

Yup, we already went over this - you can use the old grid solver in any old scene you have. In fact, you could remove everything but the PHXSimulator from an old scene and use it as a brand new one, so basically nothing is removed - if you want to use the grid solver, it's still there.

yes, really the flip solver does not have option for advection method and conservartion methods. the advection method is gone, because the flip itself is advection method, it was present in the earliest versions as advection type "particle based" , and is still existing in this form in the legacy solver appearing when old scenes are opened. the conservation methods are gone because unlike the smoke/fire sims, they produce no observable quality impact on the liquid surface behavior, and supporting all of them is a loss of efforts. the current conservation method is smooth direct, it was the most stable one and with the best liquid-object interaction.
