  • backburner rendering not visible..phoenix 2.2

    hi,

i`m using 2016. thought i may as well join this(or last) century.
i`ve got 1 main phoenix license on my workstation and i`ve got a bunch of servers with phoenix installed as `render slaves` and pointing to the license server on the network. i`ve checked that by opening the file on the slave it can render the phoenix sim fine. but send it through backburner and it renders nothing. i`ve checked the other threads on phoenix not rendering through backburner so i`ve tried setting the network path for the sim input manually with browse( i always do this anyway), i`ve also tried using the \\ method for file access.
i`m now confused since the same scene renders fine if i submit it to backburner using 3dsmax2012, just for some reason 3dsmax 2016 is not working...

any ideas ? what have i missed ?

    thanks
    anthonyh

    Hey,

Both 2012 and 2016 should be identical. Which Phoenix version are you using and is it the same for both 3ds max versions?

I could be totally wrong but I found that letting the grid use the token file name for it's output (similar to $scene_file or some such) didn't work well on deadline as it didn't resolve, I had to manually pick the first frame of the cache file to get it to render.

should be phoenix 2.2 for both versions. i know there was later update to fix something, vray 3 compatibility maybe. i`ll double check but at the moment it just works in one and not in the other. i assume the latest phoenix
release for both versions 2016 and 2012 is on my download page ?
@joconnell.. i`ve always had to pick the first file myself as well. all i`m doing is loading the same file into 2016 and hitting send to backburner, it should work. it renders in 2016 locally and it renders if i load it directly on another machine but backburner nope.

@anthonyh, will try to reproduce the issue here and will get back to you.

@joconnell, you definitely have to use a network shared path - check this for more info: http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/P...butedrendering

Svetlin - that's it, we're on deadline and of course the job is being opened from the repository and not the original folder. I love the token system, I'll just have to add a swap into my pre render scripts to change to something absolute. Cheers for the explanation!

it`s definitely on a network shared path. as i said 2012 renders fine, 2016 does not. i always set the path manually with browse file. i`ve also tried typing `\\` in the path versus selecting the file in the browser. i`ll double check the file versions, maybe it`s the old one that doesn`t support the new vray or something ? i`ll update when i`ve had a look.
