  • can't read cachefiles over 2GB in vray for maya via volumeGrid.

I'm using the default settings for saving restore points when simulating volumetrics with phoenixFD. This causes the file size to be rather big on those frames. By some reason, volumeGrid refuses to read those files. (the ones over two GB in size.)

I have been using the 2.2 version for max and I have tested with a few different maya nightly's (linux) with the same result.

Can I read the caches in and write them out again without changing them? (to get rid of the restore points) Or is there another way to fix this?

    Hey,

We resolved such a limitation in the Phoenix nightlies several months ago. Which versions of V-Ray and Phoenix are you using? Would it be possible to check which build ID you have in the About box in the Phoenix menu?

    Cheers!

I'm using an old phoenix for max 2.2.0 to sim the caches. And several different versions of vray for maya on linux to read. None of them helped on the reading issues in maya. Anything under 2gb seems to work fine.

Do you know if the bug fix is when writing the files, or reading them? I don't have any issues reading them in max, but maya stops instantly (also just for viewport updates) on those frames.

Yup, the issue was when writing the files as well - you need to simulate them again with a newer Phoenix I'm afraid.
