  • oceantex displace specific frames not rendering on backburner/local

    hi,
i`ve done a very low quality sim for an infinite ocean (i`m not using the sim part for anything).
in general it looks good, the foamtex too. however i`m getting specific frames which just don`t render through backburner or locally. out of 186 frames, 6 frames won`t render. they cause 3dsmax to hang while `transforming vertices` just after pressing render (presumably for displacement ?) i`ve tried resimulating but no luck.
what`s strange is that even after resimulating it`s the same exact frames that won`t render. (i changed the grid size/res just to make sure it was a different cache)
i`ve tried rendering with different materials and it still freezes even with a default grey so i presume it`s either phoenix or vray. using vray 3.30.05, 3dmax 2016. phx nightly 26878.
    any thoughts ?

Hummm, we definitely have to find out what's causing this. Would it be possible to drop the scene to Support?

oh for the love of.... i had it pointed to an old cache from phx 2.2 (i don`t know if that should matter or not). i started the scene in 2012 with v2.2 then switched to 2016 nightly for the phxfoamtex on a displaced ocean. seems ok now i`ve pointed it to the one actually generated from the nightly, sorry about that, rookie mistake.
we still need to use 2012 for some stuff because the nitrous viewport runs very slow for higher poly scenes in 2016(trees in particular), even legacy driver seems slower.
still, one less bug to worry about.
