  • Windows crash when rendering (blue screen of death)

    Hi,

I'm having a problem with the last version of the nightlies 26879. When I'm rendering and explosion I simulated using scanline it crashes windows giving the blue screen of death with this error "CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT". I'm using 3DsMax 2016 with Windows 10. I have my CPU overclocked which I thought was the reason but the crash only happens when I'm rendering even on the first frame while a simulation of 8 hours was fine without any issues. I tried the version before it 26878 and everything was fine without any crash. I know version 3 is almost out I just thought I mention this to you in case that was a bug and made it to the new version.

    Thanks

Its most likely due to your overclock. Its nothing to do with version.

    Have a head here:

I would suggest turning off the overclock and running a render again, if it works then you know it was the oc.

Thanks for the reply but I googled the error and did a couple of tests before posting it here. I can't find it now but I read on one of the forums on microsoft website that this error can also be caused by plug n play USB drivers which can relate to the dongle for Phoenix, just a thought, also if the version does not matter then the previous versions should have the same problem which they didn't. What I did was
-remove the overclock and test it with the latest version=same crash
      -install previous version=render just fine
-reinstall the latest version again=same crash
-reinstall the previous version again=render fine
-overclocking again with previous version=render fine

it's like if I want to see blue screen of death I install the latest build and it will crash half way through the frame. I'm open to any suggestion you have as I love to troubleshoot and maybe this will help me in another situation.

btw loved your reel really amazing work

Thanks! Did you install latest wibu drivers for the dongle? You might need to get them from the website:

in the most cases the blue screens are pointing to a driver issue, you are using cpu rendering right?

I never actually updated the wibu drivers maybe that's the reason, nice suggestion do you know how can I find my current driver's version. I don't want to go a head and try updating drivers or mess anything up since the previous version is working fine and I'm working on something. I was thinking of waiting for the new version which is almost there

Yes I'm using Scanline render for now. I don't have VRay
