  • rendering fuel as gas/ fuel output

Hi we are having problem with octane rendering VDBs fuel as fire Is it phoenix or octane problem?

    1. First problem no fuel is visible in viewport unless fuel output is on
If we do not turn out fuel in output it is not even visible in 3ds max viewport. (not sure why?)

    2. Problem is when fuel output is checked octane would render fuel as fire and fire will not even render? is it octane? we need fuel as gas and fire explosion as fire

    Thank you!

    Hey,

The caches only contain the channels that are checked in Output - thus you won't be able to preview the fuel channel unless it's exported to the cache files. If Fuel is off in the Output rollout, the simulation will generate it, keep it internally and use it, but will not save it to the cache files. The preview reads from the cache files and not directly from the simulator itself, so if the channel is not in the cache, you won't be able to preview it or render it.

The second thing sounds like something Octane does internally - not sure how you could override it to still use the temperature instead of the fuel...

Hi For some reason fuel is not rendered even with 3ds max standard renderer. Fuel output is checked. Am I doing anything wrong?

By default Fuel is not rendered indeed - you need to map it to either the fire emission or the opacity, like by default the Temperature is mapped to the emission and the Smoke channel is mapped to the opacity. Check the 'based on' dropdown in the Volumetric rendering settings.

thank you. We jsut change simple smoke to fuel. I guess this is how you makes fuel visible. this still did not help with octane. The only way to see fuel is to also enable smoke but then i guess it adds smoke to the mix where fuel does not become clean fuel

I remember we've had this conversation before. It's up to them to implement proper mapping of the simulation to the render channels...
