  • Vray wont render chunks of particles, while Scanline will - this is silly.

So I just created a basic cigarette smoke simulation and tried a path follow - that works nice.

I whack in an omni and his render - scanline works OK.

Same thing with Vray (trying different shadow types and lights) and just massive sections of the smoke aren't rendered.

    WTF?

    Did you come right?
Rendered perfectly fine on 2016 and vray 3.50.04.

It renders fine with 3.50.04. What version of V-Ray are you using?

This is because if you are using a max light, you need to set it up manually - enable Volumetric Shadows and set the shadow type to VRayShadow. This happens automatically with V-Ray lights, but for Max lights you need to do this, otherwise parts of the scene randomly will not be lit by the light.

        Cheers!

I am rendering with Max 2015 - and the same issue was happening with VRAY lights as well.

Is it working now with the suggestion from Svetlin?

If it's still not working - which version of V-Ray are you using?

              I am using vray 3.5.03

The thing is, I have just tested it on my laptop at home and it works - yet my work machine gives the error as described. Both are using the same version of vray and phoenix (using hamachi to serve the licence to laptop

But consider this: is is rendering PART of the smoke - so it's not the fact it won't render the smoke at all - you can see that it is neatly cut off into sections at 90 degree angles.

That's not a case of not rendering volume smoke - it's a bug that is happening on one machine but not another.

Ah, yes, this is an issue with the new V-Ray adaptive lights - if you turn those off, it should work. However, this is fixed in Phoenix 3.03. Which Phoenix version are you using?

I guess the work machine I was using didn't have thelatest PFD - it does now and it works.

                  Thanks for the help!
