  • Foam still flickers in render.

We're still getting horrible foam flicker in our renders, and we can't figure it out. I've tried a bunch of different things but nothing is working. We're running the nightly builds: phoenixFD_adv_30301_max2016_vray_30_x64_27289 and vray_adv_35004_max2016_x64_27287. I have been trying to fix this for 3 months and can't keep installing nightly builds every day due to lack of time, unless one of the builds will fix this issue. Our customer is getting highly frustrated with us because we can't fix this issue at all.

All of the renderings are being rendered on the same machine (no DR), to eliminate any possible issues with backburner or distributed rendering. The specs on the machine are: Dual Xeon 2.4 10 core (20 cores total). 128 GB of RAM.

We've tried rendering the full scene with the boats, water and foam and get the same results. This time we rendered the boats and water (no foam), then masked the boats and grids, and rendered just the foam to try to pinpoint whats going on. I have GI turned off for this scene. We had it turned on, and the flickering is worse. I have 3 videos in the dropbox link below. One has the foam rendered with no Subgroup (Subgroup set to All), then there are 2 other videos: One with the shader only rendering the foam above the water, and the other rendering only the foam below the water.

Below is an image of the settings we have for the foam shader.

I have a zip file ready to send to Chaos with the scene, and 1 second of the cache files. The file is 3.5 gigs though. The case number is #614909, but haven't heard back yet.

        Hello,

We have found an issue while rendering in bubbles mode and using Liquid Geometry. While we resolve it you can try and render the particles in Point mode - this should do the job and it should render a lot faster.

The particles in geometry mode? Or the liquid in geometry mode? I changed the particles to geometry mode to see if that changed the outcome of the render, but it didn't. If it's the liquid, those settings we just keep as default, and I'm not sure how to even change them.

UPDATE: Sorry, I see the options now. Going to test it with the settings you mentioned.

Hey, we found an issue when using both a displaced simulator and the Optimize Congestion option on the particle shader which is fixed in today's nightlies.

            Cheers!

That is awesome! We'll give it a shot and see if we get the results I think I've turned into a issue finder lately
