  • How to set up a initial state

Hi, after filled up an object ( for example 70% of water inside the box), how to set up this state to initial state (default start state at 1st frame) like in realflow ? I remember in realflow there has a function if simulated the water to one state you can define that state become to 1st frame, then all simulate from this state begin.

    I'm using Phoenix FD 3.03 with 3dsmax 2017, thanks.

Hey Wensk, I am pretty new to Phoenix as well but I think it's as follows:

Right click the object, Phoenix properties, Initial Liquid Fill
In the Liquid Phoenix source, add the object, set emit mode as Volume Brush, and (very important) autokey at frame 0 (100% Outgoing Velocity) click key, then at frame 1 (0% Outgoing Velocity) click key. I think there may be one other step involved that I may not have mentioned but hopefully someone else on here can help too.

I hope that puts you in the right direction!

      Hello, marksmanguy, thank you.

1, right click the object use initial liquid fill will fill up 100% of object, but we can't select percent like 70%.
2, use volume brush is good idea, but after frame 1, we will wait the water that fall and drop in the main object (like a cup, or other) , after wait some frames, the water felled and stopped motion in cup, Yes, this state is what I need, also I need set this frame to 1st frame, all simulation will begin from here. but how to do this?

      Hope someone can help.

        Hello,

You can use the Load and Start button in the Simulation rollout of the Simulator. This will load the desired cache file and use it as a starting point.

          Hello, Georgi

I simulated 100 frames, then stop it. Go back to 1st frame, use Load and Start button to load the 80th frame(file name: ND3_PhoenixFDLiquid001_0080.aur), but the Phoenix will re-simulation again from 1st frame automatically, not any state of 80th frame, where is my wrong? Thanks !

            Hi,
this is from our help page (https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...d+Simulation):

Load & Start | A_StartSim – Starts the simulation from the Start Frame the same way the Start action works, but first choose an *.aur cache as an initial state for the simulation. The file might not have velocity or might not be suited for the Restore action.

Restore | A_StartSim – Continues a simulation from the current frame on the timeline. This can happen only when the full internal state of the simulation is exported (see the Backup Interval parameter). Such frames display text in the Cache File Content list saying "Can Restore From Here". This command finds the latest frame containing a full state and continues the simulation from there.

To make it little more clear:

Load & Start: As you load a cache file it is used as an initial state for the simulation. This means that the simulation will start again over the loaded cache (not continue from loaded cache). That's why I think Restore option would work for you. By default every 15th cache file has additional information to restore the simulation from it (Backup Interval). When you hit Restore it would start from the latest cache with this information (for example If you have been simulated 41 frames, the last restore point is from 30th frame.).

              Hello, George Barzinski.

Thank you, I use the Restore and no problem anymore, very nice!
