  • VDB Resimulation Output & Render Path

    Hi,

I like to upres my simulation with Resimulation. My cache file does contain velocity output and i want my cache file in VDB so I can bring the volume to another software. By default Phoenix produce PhoenixFDsimulator1_resim_####.aur so I went to my output and manually edit the path to VDB. After that I try to run Resim but Phoenix just stopped.

      Hi Svetlin,

Have you found any solution for this problem? I really need to Resimulate my sim.

      Thanks

        Hey,

Finally got to it, but cannot reproduce it. Would it be possible to attach a scene that has the issue?

        Thanks!

          Hi Svetlin,

Can you tell me how you resimulate your cache file with vdb again cos by default the resimulate cache is .aur . How do you change it to vdb? I may do it wrong then.

          Thanks

I got a Smoke preset and a sphere, enabled Velocity in the Output, increased the cell size to make it faster and reduced the conservation quality from 100 to 20 again to make it sim faster. Ran the simulation, enabled resim and copied the "Output and Render path" over to the edit box and replaced aur with vdb. Alterntively, you could just use the $(...) macro that's by default and append ".vdb" at the end. This will create files ending with .aur.vdb.

Did you export the wavelet channel though? I left it off for my test. Maybe this could cause your issue since wavelet does not go into vdb caches yet.

Yes, I did turn on my wavelet channel. I guess that's why. I try again tomorrow with my wavelet off.

              Thank a lot Svetlin.

                Hi Svetlin,

I tried your instruction but not working for me. I attached a scene file so you can have a look.

                Thanks,

                    Hi Svetlin,

Sorry for a newbie questions. What is nightly build and how can I update it? Is there any download link to the new nightly build? Thanks for the response tho.

                    Cheers,

                        Hi Svetlin,

I think Restore doesn't work on VDB cache as well. Even though I do have velocity in my Output Grid Channels.

// Error: Phoenix FD: Cannot find a backup marker to restore the Simulation!

Please make sure the simulation was run with a positive Backup Interval under the 'Output' rollout, and that the *.aur cache files exist. //

                        Thanks

Indeed, restore is not implemented yet. Will do at some later point.
