  • Liquid Mesh holes

    Hello,
Is there any know reason why some parts of the mesh is getting this "holes" which create render artifacts as shown in the attached image?
My first sim (the one on the bottom) did not show that issue on the mesh.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Can you send us the scene so we can check it out? You can attach it here or send it to support@chaosgroup.com

        Hey,

There are a few things you need to do for your scene. When you render a liquid inside a glass sometimes the liquid mesh will overlap a little with the glass geometry. For this case you need to use the Cutter Geometry (set the glass as a cutter) and invert it. This way only the liquid in the glass will be rendered, without the parts that are intersecting. The other thing is that you have your smoothing set way too high. If you need to smooth your mesh a lot it's a better idea to use the Isosurface render mode.

          Hi,

Yes the smoothness on the previously attached image was set to 2. In the attached scene file it was set to 80 because I was just testing if it made any difference which it did not.

Attached are 2 more images using the glass as cutter geometry as you suggested. The one with rendering mode as mesh creates a lot more artifacts. The one as isosurface look much smoother however the artifacts in the mesh are still there.

As you can see with the inside faces of the glass selected is much clear to see the artifacts in the mesh which look like actual holes.

Any other clues as to what could be the issue?

What seems weird to me is that my first sim as you can see on the previously attached image was set to mesh with no cutter geom and it did not produced any artifacts.

If you render on your side are there no holes on the mesh?

From what I see you are using the Denoiser, but the noise in the original render is way too much and the denoiser produces some artifacts. If you take a look at your RGB channel your render should look a lot better. If you still want to render with the Denoiser you should let the render run a little longer. I have attached the updated Max file as well.

I did some more tests shrinking the cutter geom more so it will cut more of the mesh and it got rid of most of the artifacts. Will have to keep that in mind when doing transparent objects filled with liquid so that my original object shape keep its form when its time to render.
              Will check your updated scene.

              Thank you.
