hey there,
during my Underwater Volcano R&D I reported a major slowdown in viewport performance, which made animating in the scene a pain in the behind. Since this problem occured wether the simulators were hidden or not and even If I icked "show only if selected" and deselected "show mesh", I deleted all objects one by one and applied a default material to all of them, because I had used a grid texture for shading somewhere along the line and thought that might cause the issue. It didn?t.
I finally managed to pin down the problem: After disabling "Liquid", "RGB" and "Particles" in the Preview panel also didn?t help, I deleted the whole liquid simulator.
After that the problem was finally gone. But even better: After undoing that, the problem was still gone and the simulator still worked.
trying to reproduce the solution I repeated the steps including disabling all the preview options, but sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn?t. So finally I realized that ONLY if I scrubbed the timeline AFTER deleting the sim and before undoing the deletion, it worked. Untickin the preview options didn?t actually contribute to the solution.
Unfortunately the problem was back atfer reopening the scene. Its not such a big deal to repeat that process to fix viewport performance, but I guess its still a bug worth looking into...
I hope my description gives you an idea on how to fix it, if not I?m gonna try and prepare a scene for you to reproduce it.
I?m using build 160909 by the way.
