  • Motion blur with PHXFoam

No matter what I do I cannot get motion blur to work with PHXFoam.

I have created a simple PFlow system. I have set motion blur to Image in the Particle View > properties for the PFSource. I have turned on motion blur in Render Settings > VRay > Camera. I created a PHXFoam and added in the PFSource and its events. I get no motion blur at all.

I have tried setting the motion blur multiplier, in PFSource > Properties, to very high values. I have also tried setting the Motion Blur Mult. in the PHXFoam rollout to high values. None of this has any effect. In the PHXFoam rollout, motion blur is set to From Camera.

Why is there no motion blur?

Do I have to use Vray to get motion blur?

Here is the scene. Please help.

    Hello,

Just tested your scene with latest V-Ray and Phoenix FD builds and it seems to be working. Tried with Scanline as well and it works.

    What builds are you using?

Thank you. I'm using the latest Phoenix, 3.04.00, and Vray 3.40.01. I'd rather do it with Scanline. Vray is too slow. I can't see how you got it working. Does the motion blur option need to be turned on in the camera rollout itself? Can you post a screenshot of t render, please?

I think you need to go to the Properties of the Particle Shader and change the motion blur type from Image to Object.

        Hope this helps!

... or you could force the motion blur to On from the Particle Shader's "Motion Blur" option

Thanks for your replies, folks. But none of these options produce the effect I want. It just seems to add more points - it doesn't actually produce any blurring or smoothing. The only way I have found to make the motion blur as I want it is to turn it on at the camera as a multi-pass effect. However, I then have to render each frame many times!

This is how the motion blur in point mode works - you can check the docs for more info on that. There is even a dedicated option that allows you to control how many points are produced.

              Cheers!

Thank you, Svetlin. I didn't notice the Motion Blur Step and Motion Blur Limit. It helps.

Unfortunately Scanline is too limited to be able to properly render in Bubble or Splashes mode with motion blur. If speed is what worries you about V-Ray, we should see what can be done to optimize the render settings.

Thanks, but I'm only using point mode for now.
