  • Fire calculations times get 5-6 times longer with wetmaps

Hi when we apply wetmaps to fire discharge and temp slots ( that way fire will get extinguished ) calculation times go from 3 seconds per frame to 13 seconds with low res test grid. I think unchecking render time only in wetmaps make it slow. Not sure if this can be fixed. Because now instead of 8 hours of jsut burning fire calculations putting out fire takes 48 hours to calculate because of those wetmaps Thank you

    Hey,

The Particle Texture won't work for the simulation unless you uncheck "render time only", so this is expected. The simulation will definitely take longer because the particle texture gets involved in the calculations - each it needs to read the particles from the cache files of the other simulator, decompress them, build accelerations structures from them, sample them using the particle texture and use them as a mask for the source discharge, all of which are slower operations than if there was no wetmap at all. If you like, please send the scene over to Support and we'll see if anything can be optimized.

    Cheers!

ok looks like when it takes 2 min without wet maps with wet maps it takes 2 min 40 sec. so it is not 5 times like i thought thank you

you can try to bake it to texture by using it as self illumination color, the particle texture evaluation is significantly slower compared to the simple bitmap evaluation
