  • simulator 'Box' showing in ocean render

    Hi ,
I have attached an example of an issue I am having where the simulators 'box' area is showing in the ocean render. How can I go about preventing this from happening?

    Thanks!

Im having a simlar problem I was about to post. have you tried adjusting the ocean level? Maybe show mesh after you render and see if the sim box mesh is raised. The issue I think Im having is my sim box mesh is much more dense then my infinate ocean not sure if this is the same issue your having but I need help with my issue as well

I have both the 'initial fill' and the 'Ocean Level' parameters set to 42.00.

        Hey,

monsteradurm You need to increase the ocean level render settings - this is exactly the reason there is a separate fillup setting for the simulation and another ocean level setting for the render - the liquid may subside or rise during simulation influenced by too many factors than is possible to account, so by enabling the mesh preview in the viewport you should adjust the ocean level to match the level of the simulator pretty quickly

Turtle247 Your problem is different - you have high mesh resolution of the simulator but low ocean resolution and this is why the surfaces differ so much. You need to increase your ocean subdivs parameter until the detail match. This is because currently there is no way to decrease the detail level of the simulator, otherwise if you have splashed liquid in it, it would start losing shape.

        Hope this helps!

Thanks for respones I recently updated to version 3.03 from 2.2 and im getting different results with the exact same scene. I also upgraded to max 2017 from 2015 not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. When I render the ocean with the sim box in Phoenixfd 2.2 I dont get the box outline and the infinate ocean mesh density is really close to the sim density and the render times are really fast but when I try incease increasing ocean subdivs to match close the render times go through the roof when using 3.03 version in max 2017. Am I missing something here looks like a lot of the ocean parameters change from 2.2 to 3.0. Is there a patch I need to fix this? the scene was orginaly made in 2.2 version and max 2015.

Oh, you should definitely update to 3.05 if you are using oceans - there were important fixes and changes in 3.05, as well as some optimizations too. However, the render params won't be 1:1 compatible, especially the ocean subdivs - they had many issues in previous versions so now are changed and should generally use lower values than could be dialled in 2.2.

            Cheers!

currently I cant go up any more than 10 ocean subdivs without capping my ram out it gets up to 100gb I have 128gb of ram and the render looks the same around my sim box as using 2 subdivs. Do you think the update will fix this? I never had any problems with ocean rendering in 2.2 version Im just hoping the update will fix my issue

You won't get this smooth horizon in 3.05 - check it and see
