  • Simulation slow down

I noticed that for some reason the simulation time increase with time testing it.
After a while the frame can take over a minute and if I close 3dsmax, reopen and restore it is back to a few seconds...

Hey, can I have a look at the scene? This needs to be fixed.

    Thanks!

I don't think it is scene related, I had this problem on several different scenes AND computers AND 3dsmax versions AND PHX versions since I started using PHX... The scene is still the same I am experimenting with the new features... I can upload it again if you really need it...

That's rather unusual, and we'll be sure to check it out.
It would be really helpful if you could provide us with some hints. My understanding is that you're tweaking the same scene and the more you hit the Start button, the longer the simulation takes?

Have you noticed if that happens with the Liquid or the Fire/Smoke simulator ?

What resolution do you usually use in the RnD stage ?

Any idea as to how long it usually takes for the software to start slowing down ?

If you could throw me a scene or two at ( my name @ chaogroup dot com) that you can recall experiencing this with, I would be most obliged.

        Thank you!

Oh, if it's the same scene, we'll experiment with it, thanks!

Oh, btw, it would be greatly helpful if you could send over the Phoenix log from one such run. This will most certainly answer where the slowdown comes from.

              Hi Svetlin,

I noticed that there wasn't a solution posted on this thread. I've got the same problem. Running a liquid simulation with foam and splashes. The first frames are relativly fast. Thats to be expected, there are less foam and splashes. Every 25 frames each frame takes about a minute longer than before. So after 200 frames every frame takes about 8-10 minutes. So far i thought that was normal, but then my computer faced an unexpected shutdown (had nothing to do with the simulation, just a random windows update...) and I had to restore the simulation from a backup frame. The same frame that took over 10 minutes to render before restarting the pc, now only took 2 minutes. From there the same thing. I'm 40 frames in (after restoring from the backup), and instead of 2 minutes, it takes over 6 minutes per frame now. Am I missing something here?

If you need som aditional information about my scene, please let me know what you need.

              Many thanks,

Hey are you using Phoenix 3.14? Is it slowing down the simulation or the render? If this is reproducible with the latest builds can you send over the scene so we can investigate what is going on?

                Cheers,

                  Hi Georgi,

                  Thanks for the quick response!
Yes, i'm working with Phoenix 3.14.00 right now. It slows down the simulation of a liquid sim with foam and splashes enabled.
What i did now was to only run the liquid simulation without the foam and splashes. That works fine and is steady till the end frame.

I will see if i can reproduce it. If thats the case, to wich adress can i send the scene? And is just a .max file sufficient?

                  Thanks!

That's a great finding about the foam and splashes. Just send it over to support@chaosgroup.com and we will take a look.

                    Thank you,
